Six candidates file in Stearns County Board of Commissioners special election
Six candidates filed for the Stearns County Board of Commissioner's fourth district special election.
The seat was vacated by former Commissioner Leigh Lenzmeier, who retired on April 23 after a guardianship battle with his wife. In guardianship filings, the former commissioner's wife said he faced cognitive decline. As a result, Lenzmeier was staying at a Wright County assisted living facility, and remotely attended half of the board's meetings last year.
"I am proud of my service as a Stearns County Commissioner for over 34 years," Lenzmeier said when he retired. "The residents I have served, the board members I served with and the staff I worked with will always be the highlight of my life, and hopefully my legacy."
The six candidates vying to serve the remainder of Lenzmeier's term are Amin Ali, Shawn Blackburn, Darrell Bruestle, Mike Conway, Frank Imholte and Bob Johnson, according to the Minnesota Secretary of State's office.
