Mayor Tim Keller's (D) campaign files ethics complaint over sweatshirts
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The campaign for Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller has filed an ethics complaint against local taxpayer watchdog and blogger Paul Gessing, alleging he violated city charter by not disclosing who distributed "I Love Tim Keller" sweatshirts to homeless people in the International District.
Gessing, who is president of the Rio Grande Foundation, told Target 7 earlier this week that he was aware of who was behind the sweatshirt stunt, but did not reveal their identity.
Daymon Ely, a former state representative and attorney for Keller's campaign, filed the complaint with the city clerk's office on Friday.
Ely said, "When I first heard about it, it was, we don't know who did this, right? When I saw [KOAT's] interview with Paul Gessing, that changed my mind. Because he knows who did it, he knows they did it to help the campaign that's opposing Tim Keller, and they did it to try and influence voters at the polls."
