reception at 2026 Washington State Democratic Convention

Hello from the Lilac City and welcome back to our continuing coverage of the 2026 Washington State Democratic Convention in Spokane.

Following a long day of back-to-back caucus and council meetings, plus a few trainings, hundreds of delegates and guests filled a ballroom for an evening reception with statewide elected officials and a special guest — DNC Chair Ken Martin.

After stopping at the dinner buffet on their way in, attendees settled into their seats for what became a rather long speaking program somewhat reminiscent of the Crab Feeds that the party used to hold every year in Lacey.

State Party Chair Shasti Conrad began the fesitivites with remarks emphasizing that Democrats are dedicated to securing government that actually works for the people at every level. She described herself as an optimist who “actively chooses to believe that progress is possible.” She then introduced Seattle’s U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who walked on stage to sustained cheers and a standing ovation.
