3 initiatives to impact Spokane County taxes on August ballot

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — When you buy an item within Spokane Transit Authority's (STA) area of service, a portion of the sales tax you pay, goes directly to them.

Right now, that's about 0.8%. But coming up in 2028, 0.2% of that rate is set to expire.

On August's primary ballot, STA has put forward Proposition 1, which asks voters to maintain the 0.2% rate, to make 0.8% overall.

"This is a measure asking voters to renew that existing tax, to maintain that service into the future and continue to provide for bus replacements and facility replacements with time," STA CEO Carl Otterstrom told NonStop Local.
