Tell Amazon To Stop Supporting the Donkey Skin Trade
ARLINGTON, VA.
Animal welfare advocates representing millions of people around the world gathered at Amazon headquarters to hand-deliver over 370,000 petition signatures demanding that Amazon ban the sale of ejiao, a gelatin made from donkey hides that is used in cosmetic products, food supplements, and traditional Chinese medicine.
An estimated five million donkeys are slaughtered each year to meet the growing demand for ejiao.
The donkeys trapped in this horrific industry are often beaten to death with sledgehammers and sometimes skinned alive so that their hides can be turned into a gelatin used in pseudoscientific Chinese medicine.
While eBay banned ejiao from its platform in 2017, Amazon continues to ignore the global call to act.
Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA) leads the bipartisan Ejiao Act (HR 6021), which would prohibit the sale of ejiao in the United States.
