Arkansas Trooper Christopher Weatherly is a psychopath

We reported yesterday on the Arkansas State Police trooper who was captured on video running over a baby Canada goose after the geese family of four did not move quickly enough from Interstate 57 for the trooper’s liking. It was another black eye for an agency that has suffered a lot of black eyes since Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders put Col. Mike Hagar in charge.

Turns out, the video that initially circulated on social media didn’t provide a full picture of what happened. For a full sense of the trooper’s callousness, one needs to view the dash camera footage. The clip below was procured and edited by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette:

In the video, the trooper — first identified by Snarky Media Group as Christopher Weatherly — runs over the first gosling, as seen in the earlier video clip. He then backs up far enough that the other gosling, following closely behind one of the adult geese, is visible on camera before advancing again. He drives slowly at first until he’s just behind the adult goose, before accelerating in an effort to scare the adult into flying away, killing the second gosling in the process.

This all followed a roughly two-minute telephone conversation between Weatherly and someone with Arkansas Game & Fish, in which Weatherly bemoaned not being sure what to do to get the geese off the interstate. Weatherly also says on the video that he’s worried the geese will cause a wreck. The Game & Fish official said he was in Maumelle, putting his boat in the lake, so he wasn’t able to help with the situation beyond “watching [Weatherly] on iDrive,” the Arkansas traffic website.
