🇪🇺 The European Parliament has made Qwant the default search engine across its internal systems.
🔎 Qwant is French, privacy-focused, and operates outside American legal jurisdiction.
🖥️ EuroOffice launches June 9 as a European open-source alternative to Microsoft 365.
☁️ The EUs Tech Sovereignty Package is creating the legal framework to move sensitive government data away from American cloud providers.
🇫🇷 France is migrating public institutions from Windows to Linux and replacing Teams, Zoom, and WebEx with sovereign alternatives.
🇳🇱 The Microsoft-Dutch civil servant leak showed exactly why European institutions are moving so quickly.
🌍 The deeper pattern is clear: Europe is rebuilding the digital tools of government from search to cloud to office software.

(2,091 posts)The way things are going here, I don't think being chained to American software (and potential surveillance) is a great idea.

(1,979 posts)... but when we gave up Windows for Linux Mint, we felt so relieved and empowered. It's been two years for us and we're never going back.

(13,543 posts)This is absolutely happening with the European governments and it will spill over to the citizens as well. People in other countries do not like the fact that the US can spy on them and make their lives miserable with the touch of a button. We will all change when we can and it is absolutely necessary for National security for governments.

(13,543 posts)She will drop usually 2 videos a day and sometimes 3. She also has House of El AI to keep up to date on the AI front. Everyone should watch her videos, she speaks about geopolitics and the financial results of mostly US, Canada and Europe. No hyperbole or BS, just straight talk. Many Americans could have a problem with the news she has for them particularly about the economy and how the rest of the world is moving on from the US, but you do need to know what is really happening out there. We have known about this move for months now, it is just today and next week that the plug is being pulled.

(527 posts)Thank you for elaborating on your recommendation. It got me to look at the original post, and she is really amazing! I like those who are able to express themselves without the hyperbole, whining, yelling, or sensationalism. Just straight talk and facts.

(628 posts)As an American, I wish I lived in a country like Europe, that cares for its citizens!
As it is, I am too old and settled in, to move now.
I have some younger friends who moved to Spain last year and I salute their wise decision!
And I'm really too old to care much.

(2,029 posts)Google and MS will lose a substantial amount on licensing fees for their products so American Business will probably have to pay more, maybe a lot. That will trickle (or waterfall) down to regular consumers. Just another prick in the wall thanks to Republicants. Everyone needs to be told why their access to the net and other services 90% of Americans use as fees go up. They don't realize the hidden costs of the internet to them. But they will.
Another aspect of this could be slowing or outages across the (American!) net.
Qwant is really good. And the removal or disuse of MS Office will port many over to the European model furthering the probable price increases.
As far as the American "net" goes, it looks as though"there ain't no such thing as a free (Internet) lunch" any more.
And this could really slide over to phone service in America.
Ain't we getting greater now?
