Steamer clams

Quick Question:

You steam them. They're opened. You have your clam broth and melted butter ready to go.

You hold onto the neck and dip and eat.

Here's the question: Do you also eat the neck or throw it away?

Excuse the ignorance and thank you in advance.

Pull them out and peel off the dark rubbery turtleneck.
Rinse in broth and dredge them in butter if you wish.
Some people will peel two or three and drop in butter.
Sometimes they are so sweet, no need for butter.
Bellies make 'em bettah.
