The Giants are sending starter Jordan Hicks, 23-year-old lefty Kyle Harrison, outfield prospect James Tibbs and another prospect, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Devers' agent, Nelson Montes de Oca, confirmed the Giants were acquiring the Red Sox star.
Devers, 28, is in the second season of a 10-year, $313.5 million contract he signed to stay in Boston in January 2023. The Red Sox will not send any money to cover the remaining $250 million-plus on Devers' contract, sources said.

Wow! Devers is a huge talent. Seems like San Fran got him for a reasonable return!

(10,747 posts)They asked him to play 1st after they got Alex Bregman and he refused. So he has been DHing. Too much money for a DH, regardless of his HRs and RBIs

(23,344 posts)he's actually a liability defensively at 3rd base. Not a good fielder at all.

Kind of a bummer Wilmer Flores playing second fiddle to Rafael Devers. I suspect Wilmer will become a pinch hitter extraordinaire and get in a lot of playtime on the field

(23,344 posts)I guess the Dodgers' numerous injuries, particularly to their pitching staff, helps explain it. The Giants are a very good team, but these Dodgers were supposed to be an exceptional squad.
"Baseball's weird" -- Buster Posey
Posey set the tone in Spring Training: defense, pitching and smart baseball. Overlooked: the intangibles. They are finding ways to win.
This trade is a little reminiscent of the Zach Wheeler for Carlos Beltran trade in 2011. Not quite an apples-to-apples comparison since Beltran was essentially a rental and Kyle Harrison might not quite match the potential of Wheeler. Beltran almost immediately landed on the I.L. That was disaster.
I do have concerns losing Harrison. And can Devers accept giving up third base to Chapman's better glove? He had problems with that in Boston.

"Players need to take this as an example, nobody is indispensible... You need to be smart and understand the situation. Your worst enemy is your own ego."
