Heatwave - record temperatures broken

While you all suffer through extreme cold, down her in Oz, temperature records are being broken. This is in the state of Victoria - in the South East. Supposedly a temperate climate.

Multiple towns reach all-time temperature highs
ABC meteorologist Adam Morgan confirms that multiple Victorian towns reached all-time temperature records today.

These include Walpeup and Hopetoun in north-west Victoria, which broke an all-time Victorian record when they each reached 48.9 degrees Celsius.

Just across the border in South Australia, Renmark reached 49.6C.

These are all-time highs since 1910, when standardised records began.

Suburbs across Melbourne are still recording temperatures above 40C at 7pm.

Stay warm gang! I'll try to stay cool.

Do what you can to stay at a safe temperature! Eating melons and cucumbers helps.

I moved into a unit six month ago and though north facing (I've planted veggies out front!) it's double brick with enormous eaves and actually stays at a reasonable temperature. I have cucumbers in the veggie patch and they are just ripening now. Magnificent! No room for melons though.
