It is only 45 miles from Punta Palascìa in Italy. On exceptionally clear days, Sazan is visible from the Italian mainland.

It looks like it has beautiful weather from May to October.

On paper it looks like it is a fairly nice location with some fascinating history. For example: In 215 B.C., during the First Macedonian War, ancient Greek historian Polybius recorded a significant military encounter near the island involving the forces of Philip V of Macedon and the Roman Republic.

But it is an ill-conceived project to be sure, and a lot of Albanians and other organizations oppose it:
