27. I never saw any sign of PTSD in my father.

He was a B-17 pilot up until the end of the war. He lost lots of people in his Bombardment group. Lots. Had a piece of flak shrapnel in his leg. But, the entire time I knew him, he was one of the most stable, even-tempered men I have ever met. I have known a few others who were in combat during WWII. All have been pretty much OK, as far as I could tell.

I realize that was not always the case, but don't have any theories about why. I do not like wars. I spent a 4-year enlistment in the USAF, but was never even near any combat. They found other work for me to do in other places.

Now, I'm an old man who has lived the life I've lived. Each of us has to deal with what presents itself to us. I guess I come from very stable stock, for which I'm very grateful.
