1. Back when I was a little kid growing up in . . .

. . . in a poor, crossroads, cotton-picking Mississippi town in the 1950's, I said "I hate (something, I forget what)." My sainted grandmother let me know "We don't use that word -- 'hate' is not a word that we use."

I have refrained from using that word. Until now.
