The American sense of community, with shared obligations to each other as citizens and members of society, has been shredded by relentless cultural hero-worship of "entrepreneurs" and the primacy of "winning" as the measure of success. Over decades, the America's self-portrait transmogrified from the home of the greatest democracy to the home of American capitalism, the greatest economic system.
