After I had a baby, thinking about the homeless man I’d see on the street went from being an intellectual moment (of considering poverty or the implications or the economy or why the richest country in the world doesn’t have foolproof simple mechanisms for people to get the basics of food, water and shelter out of the abundance that this country produces) to instantly seeing the little boy inside, just the passage of time stood between the baby in someone’s arms and the discarded ‘stranger’ who just needs a softer place to rest his head, food, and dignity.

Instantly, I’d see the child inside, as i walked around or drove around in downtown, or walked through airports and saw hundreds of people all around.
