America - Love It and Make It Better
As you noted with the Mark Twain quote, loyalty to country does not require loyalty to our government and its actions. In this case, loyalty to our nation's Constitution requires opposition to a would-be king who is tearing our Founding documents to shreds.
Recently, one of The Felon's mouthpieces (can't remember which) used the cudgel of "support the troops" to shame those who don't support this illegal, stupid war.
That same cudgel was used by the W Bush regime and its supporters to attack critics of the war in Iraq. It really pisses me off when mendacious politicians and their warmongers who cause the unnecessary death and disfigurement of our people in uniform use them as a high horse from which to berate concerned citizens who are excerising their 1st Amendment rights and their responsibility to demand better of our government.
I joined DU 24 years ago during the neocon campaign of lies leading to their war of choice in Iraq. Four days before "Shock and Awe" was launched, I rode a bus sponsored by Move On from my home in Chicago to march with 100,000 protesters in our nation's Capitol against that imminent war.
As our march progressed, a small group of counter-protesters started chanting SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, SUPPORT OUR TROOPS. I very loudly added my voice to their chant, but changed it to SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME. Others soon joined me, and we totally drowned them out.
Less than two weeks from now on No Kings Day, We The People, together, can make our voices drown out their lies & hate, and start kicking them out this November.

Condosleeza's appearence at the WH was a clear sign that the earlier neocons are part of this tragedy

I seem to have a problem with the ultra orthodox of most Western Religions.

Strange how we fight for symbols instead of the thing. Flags and boarder are pure fiction.
