(4,085 posts)Maher is just a misogynist. Fetterman is emotionally dysregulated.
The claim they make is that the current crop of adult males (those maybe 10-15 years younger than I) were raised on media that portrayed men-as-husbands being bumbling jokes. Think Malcolm in the Middle's dad, or Homer Simpson, or any number of commercials where men have to ask their wives how to use a laundry machine.
This is manifesting as an inferiority complex and defense mechanisms that are amplified with social media and online parasocial relationships.
It is a reasonable hypothesis, but I'm a man and I'm not wounded by these depictions. Like yeah, it is an overcorrection from I Love Lucy, but since when did us dudes become such snowflakes?
Obviously, the blind spot in this reasoning is the ~4000 years of women being disenfranchised and viewed as the 'pot of dirt' that a man's seed grows in.
Fetterman, though, had trouble talking and looked like he was going to cry. It was painful to see. He didn't cry like Jordan Peterson (who cries in anger like a lunatic).
Had Fetterman not been a party to murder on the streets by a paramilitary, he would be the subject of pity. He is a tragedy.
As much as I want him to resign, and as much as I like heaping scorn on him, I have to admit seeing that look in his eyes as he tried to form thoughts and have them slip like sand through his fingers... it was sad. He is on a track and can't steer.
I want Fetterman to go home and be with his wonderful wife and family. He is ill and shouldn't be in a position of power.
Bill Maher? He should drown in a river.
