Polis commuted Tina Peters’ sentence, he didn’t pardon her. That means she’s still a convicted felon and won’t be able to hold office in Colorado again because her felony was one for violating the public trust. Supposedly she’s too ill to run anyway although I don’t see evidence of that.

She served a quarter of her 9 year sentence and the reality is she would have been eligible for parole next year. I think the commutation sends a horrible message and I wonder how many other people in Colorado’s prisons were at least as deserving, if not more so but didn’t get any consideration. What Polis did was fundamentally unfair because there was no rationale for the decision that couldn’t be applied to a lot more people.
