Costco sees record gas sales as fuel prices soar nationally [View all]

As Americans continue to feel the pain of rising fuel prices, more and more are turning to Costco Wholesale Corp. (Nasdaq: COST) for relief.

In its 2026 quarterly earnings report issued May 28, the Issaquah-based company said it reached record-high gas sales volume over the 12-week period that concluded May 10. The boost, CEO Ron Vachris said, comes from Costco's insistence on "offering the best value."

"Our buyers continue to demonstrate their ability to adapt, and are using their significant experience and expertise to try to reduce the impacts on prices for our members," Vachris said on the company's earnings call. "Our goal is to be the first to lower prices and last to raise them."

According to data from AAA, fuel prices averaged $4.42 a gallon nationally last week. Prices are up more than 50% since the initial U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran in late February, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

That's where I buy my gas but the last time, I paid $5.39 a gallon.
