Like slashing or throwing acid in the face of your psyche. You don't worship or acknowledge their supremacy. You don't fawn over or obey them, so they vandalize the things that symbolize your struggles and ambitions, your victories and accomplishments. They do this because they envy your beautiful strengths as you stand and persevere against their perversion and power. They cannot possess you so they seek to destroy you.
