(1,439 posts)Almost everything rests on the signing of the MOU and once that's done both sides will begin the real negotiations.
The first point is both Iran and the U.S. and its allies will permanently end the war on all fronts including Lebanon. That's good.
The second point is both Iran and the U.S. will not interfere in each other's internal affairs. Anyone really think that will happen. Iran will continue to use bots to spread false propaganda within the U.S. to divide us and the U.S. will continue to foment dissent in Iran.
Third point is both parties will reach a final agreement within 60 days but the MOU is extendable by mutual agreement for up to 60 days. IOWs, we'll continue to talk.
Points 4 & 5 mainly state sea traffic in the Sea of Oman (Strait of Hormuz) will be restored to it's prewar levels and the U.S. will withdraw all its forces from the region. Nothing about prohibiting Iran from charging tolls or fees on shipping traffice.
The rest of the points are mainly talking about talking about other points with nothing really set is stone.
Basically, it seems to me this MOU is a face-saving method to stop fighting by saying they're going to talk about the situation. I'm not going to get excited or worked up about this MOU other to say it appears Iran is holding all the cards.
