election is very depressing. In most polls, about 10 of the 160 Knesset seats go to Arab parties. Netanyahu 's bloc includes his party Likud, the 2 far right parties that are headed by Ben Gvir and Smotich, and 2 ultra orthodox parties, in most polls they are less than the 61 needed.
However, the anti-Netanyahu bloc includes some on the right as well. The two largest blocks are one headed by Bennett and Lapid, where Bennett, a settler has spoken favorably of annexing part of the West Bank and the other headed by Eisenkot, a former IDF chief of Staff. The other two parties are headed byAvidor Lieberman, who is right wing but anti Netanyahu and a party that named themselves Democrats. The Democrats were formed by a merger of Labor and Meretz. I think this party which polls about 10 seats is the only party even close to DU although many here might have problems with them too.
In its best polls, the anti Netanyahu parties added together get close to 60 seats. However getting to 61 seems difficult as some refuse to even get support from the Arab parties, much less including them.
Note, while I have been following this on Haaretz, I do not understand a lot about Israeli politics. I am amazed how fast their parties come and go. I appreciate it is a much different system than the US.
However, from everything I have read, there is nowhere near enough support for a left or even center left government.
