President Trumps plans to hold a military parade in Washington on his 79th birthday this Saturday are in doubt as officials consider cancelling the event due to a thunderstorm warning.
Steve Warren, chief spokesman of the US army, which is celebrating its 250th anniversary, told The Times: Rain wont stop us, the tanks dont melt, but if theres lightning then that puts the crowd at risk
they will disperse the crowd and even cancel or postpone the parade. It will depend on the president, too, when hes available.
The army has planned a day of festivities in Washington to celebrate the anniversary, culminating in a parade at 6.30pm featuring 6,600 soldiers, dozens of tanks and an astronaut tuning in from space.
A slow-moving front is forecast to move into the city from the north. Thunderstorms are most likely in the later afternoon and into the evening, when the parade would begin.
