Fractious news sources help the regime further divide the populous. This leads to bickering. Which the regime will then (falsely) claim "Only We Can Fix" it. Yay for authoritarians. Boo for Democracy.

Everyone's isolated and confused. The dumb get brainwashed, and the radical believers in the truth go underground.
