"I've never seen anything like it," a professor of veterinary medicine specializing in carnivores reported. "Leopards tend to be lean and svelte, and normally they burn off a lot of calories carrying large prey up into trees. They just don't get fat. But lately we're seeing more and more of them hardly able to waddle. They won't get up even to chase a nice juicy antelope; they just lie around and belch. We don't know where all the extra calories are coming from."
