Afghanistan war: 2,459
Iraq: 4,500
WW2: 416,800 Americans

Ignoring the numbers of combatants and civilians who were in the wrong place at the wrong time of course.
Like the 22 to 27 million Russian deaths in WW2.

The meat grinder doesn't discriminate.
