probably constitutes a religious connotation for a great many people. But even with thesaurus related substitutes, I don't see one that can completely embrace what we see with trump and his minions. Maybe because I've been out of mainstream religion for so many decades now, but the word evil, to me, speaks of something so sickeningly wrong internally with a person that there are no qualities the person could possess that would mediate what he does. If I truly think about the word, it's less a religious term than a deep metaphysical word to me. Something that was here before civilization, before religion, maybe. And I do believe there is a neurological component... like different parts of the brain are not just "right"... that there are major differences in either brain structure, synapses, etc. between truly "evil" people and those who are "normal" but having a really bad day with others. We see elements of these in people with dementia and alzheimers. Personality traits that have never been part of their visible word until they get past a certain age or brain diminution. I'd hate to think I'm one of the only ones out there that don't necessarily see the word as a component of a religion... but then again, I've been out on limbs by myself before... so it wouldn't be the first time! (LOL)
