In reply to the discussion: Think good thoughts for me [View all]Warpy
(114,507 posts)58. For me, it was lifting a heavy bag of groceries out of a cab
Heard/felt a big pop and my leg went out from under me. I didn't have the dignity of falling and breaking my hip, my hip broke and then I fell.
Four years later, nobody can tell which one I broke. My hands and wrists are trashed from RA, so I had to learn how to walk on my own. If your balance is decent and you are willing to work at it (pain and all), then you have the same potential.
Recovery will hurt, especially in the beginning, but the nasty twinges will get farther apart as time goes on. I can't give you a schedule for that, everybody is different, just realize it won't be forever, especially if you pay attention and do the exercises physical therapists tell you to do.

You have our support. Please let us know how it turns out and I hope it's not too painful. I can relate.

Good thoughts to you Tree Lady. Try 4, 7, 8 breathing to calm. 4 counts in, hold for 8 and 7 to exhale.

Ow! You'll do fine after the hip surgery. Good excuse to make your husband wait on you, too.
