She lives in one of the reddest rural areas of one of the reddest states in the U.S.A..

She has neighbors who have never traveled further than the nearest WalMart, who are fearful of big cities, and speculate that any Black or Mexican person they see is a gangster who might murder, rape, or rob them.

Parts of California are like that too.
