San Diego's 'Trump House' Owner Hospitalized In Critical Condition Following Brutal Attack; Neighbor Arrested [View all]

A 69-year-old North County San Diego man known locally for transforming his property into a sprawling display of pro-Trump banners, American flags, and political signage is fighting for his life after what police describe as a brutal daytime assault that has now led to an attempted murder arrest.

On Wednesday, May 20, at approximately 2:14pm, officers with the Escondido Police Department responded to the area of East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street following reports of a violent assault in progress. When officers arrived, they discovered an elderly male suffering from what authorities described as “significant injuries.” A bystander who reportedly intervened during the incident was also injured.

Police say the suspect fled the scene on foot before officers arrived, but responding units located a man matching the suspect’s description near East Mission Avenue and Begonia Street, roughly half a mile away. Authorities identified the suspect as 32-year-old Escondido resident Thomas Caleb Butler, who was taken into custody without incident and later booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of attempted murder under California Penal Code 664/187(a).

The victim has not yet been formally identified by police, but multiple media outlets identified him as Kerry Sheron, a 69-year-old Army veteran believed to own the property long referred to locally as the “Trump House.”
