Rep. Emily Randall's bipartisan Ferries Act would provide a boost to maritime transportation across the U.S.

United States Representative Emily Randall and Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson are calling for increased federal investment in ferry infrastructure as Washington State Ferries continues recovering from years of staffing shortages, aging vessels, and service disruptions. Standing at Seattle’s Colman Dock on a Friday afternoon, they made the case that ferries are something that Democrats and Republicans alike can agree on in extremely dark and divisive times. Joining them to amplify their call for action were:

Daniel Twohig, the Vice President of the International Organization of Masters Mason Pilots of the Pacific Maritime Region

Katie Walters, a Kitsap County Commissioner and chair of the Kitsap Transit Board and for Kitsap County

Jodi Davis, small business owner and ferry commuter

John Floss, the Executive Director of Kitsap Transit, whose agency operates a fast ferry between Kitsap County and downtown Seattle

The Friday media event was centered around H.R. 7774, the Ferries Act, with “Ferries” an abbreviation for “Federal Enhancement and Revitalization of Reliable Infrastructure for Essential Seaways Act.” H.R. 7774 was introduced in March.

Randall, serving in her first term in Congress after being elected in 2024, co-founded the bipartisan Congressional Ferry Caucus earlier this year to advocate for ferry-dependent communities across the country.
