One could use Open Office, or Libre Office, which costs nothing, nada, nil, zilch, zero, and takes the place of the ENTIRE Mi¢ro$oft package!

These are definitely compatible with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and have versions for Windoze, Mac, AND Linux!
