2. With most cards you can sign up for notifications for when your card is charged.

This saved me a big hassle a few years ago when an illegitimate charge was made. I got a notice on my phone in less than five minutes after the charge & called the company & cancelled the card. You'll have to create an online account with your card service, but IMO, the notifications are worth it!
