4. I've said much the same thing before

on other forums and been lambasted for wanting to destroy marriage just to keep homosexuals from being able to do it.

That was of course not my intent nor do I object to legalizing gay marriage.

My reasoning was the same as yours: there's no reason for the state to be involved in this either to encourage or discourage certain couples from living together (or larger groupings).

But apparently that is not an acceptable stance.
