        here's a tip for people who like to rescue thrown out items. I worked at a university and my office was across from the student dorms. At the end of each year they had a few designated "move out" days for students. You would not believe the kind of stuff that the students would put out next to the dumpsters - everything from futons to plants to chairs to desks - because they didn't want to be bothered dealing with them. I was always just gobsmacked at how they thought nothing of throwing out microwaves, toasters, etc. I don't know if anyone ever thought to rescue some of it, but I bet they did.
