We'd regularly take possession of new cars by driving them from a nearby laydown yard, where they were unloaded from the transporter, to the new car lot. It was a group effort: Mechanics, parts people, salesmen would all help out. One day, thinking to be extra helpful, I unhooked and backed a new car off the top level of the transporter. Boy howdy, did I ever get an ass chewin'. From everyone. Nothing bad happened but it was made perfectly clear that I, the dumbshit, was never, ever, EVER to do that again because I was assuming and moving unnecessary liability that should be borne only by the carrier. Learned a lesson, I did.
