I've never been able to find it after I read it once. It's when they decided since animals didn't have souls, torturing poor dogs by living autopsy was just okey dokey, since they couldn't 'really' feel anything.

Voltaire said something about how since they found the same body processes in a dog (heart, lungs, intestines etc) that should give Mechanists a fucking clue. In elegant, Voltaire speak of course.
