a National Guard Major. A major is just one step up from Captain, which is just one step up from Lieutenant.

Frankly, it does not compute in any way. The military is highly structured and has a very regimented chain of command. Majors never give orders to Generals. They don't even give orders to Colonels. Instead, they serve as aides to those Generals, doing whatever scutwork they are asked to do. If they're good at following a General's orders and minding their own business, they might possible end up being promoted into that category after a decade or two.

Having a National Guard Major order you to resign and retire is an almost unimaginable thing if you are a General. And yet, so things are in the Trump Regime.
