It's General Carl von Clausewitz's* most important question, one that demands a clear and irrefutable answer to before you go to war.

* Carl von Clausewitz's most notable work, Vom Kriege (On War) is considered a seminal treatise on military strategy and science. His "Principles of War" is taught in all military schools, right up there with Sun Tsu.
