New Boeing 787 Dreamliner collapses while parked at the gate [View all]

A nearly new Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner suffered significant damage after its nose landing gear reportedly collapsed while parked at the gate at Frankfurt Airport.

The incident forced the cancellation of Flight LH450 to Los Angeles as crews assessed the damage and according to reports, no injuries have been reported so far.

Cabin crew and ground staff were on board and several were injured and were receiving medical treatment, the airline said.

A Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner tipped onto its nose at Frankfurt Airport on Thursday injuring several staff, the German airline said.

The incident occurred at 12:45 pm just before passengers boarded the plane which was scheduled to fly to Los Angeles.

"While the aircraft was parked, the nose landing gear unexpectedly retracted," a spokesperson for the airline told the AFP news agency.
