2. fair points, I think; what role do you see Democratic party leadership having for "insurgent" candidates?

I do wonder if Mills took the other major swim lane for too long for a stronger rival to emerge. It certainly appears to be too late to introduce an alternative at this point -- I know of one other candidate in the race, and he barely has a media presence AFAICT. Do you have an opinion about how the Democratic party could help in this situation?
