Yes, you are right if they are lost nearby, but these Colorado lost animals (whether from car wrecks or other) along I-70 or elsewhere in the state are a very different story. We've had Park Service, Forest Service, and State rescue volunteer groups spend days successfully trying to get to dogs trapped on ledges in very difficult areas to rappel--in order to rescue them and we've had dogs who were lost for close to a year that were apparently accepted into coyote or wolf groups. Fascinating how they manage to survive, but cats--not so much. But, if they were outdoor cats (at least partially) and had used their "hunting skills," they have a far better chance.
